Frequently Asked Questions
1. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE THE OIL IN MY VEHICLE?
Changing the engine oil is probably the most important maintenance a vehicle owner can do and is often over looked. Recommended intervals are every 4,000-5,000 km. Always use manufacturer recommended grade of oil. Don’t forget to have the oil filter done at the same time. The benefits of regular oil changes are:
-keep engine oil system clean
- reduced engine mechanical wear
- prolonged engine life
- better fuel economy
2. WHY ARE SEASONAL VEHICLE INSPECTIONS IMPORTANT?
Seasonal inspections, spring & fall, provide the vehicle owner the opportunity to keep on top of preventative maintenance schedule as well as monitoring normal wear & tear of your vehicles' components. Potential unsafe or severely worn components can be found at this time also. This is also an excellent time to have your tires rotated to prolong their life-time.
3. WHY IS TIRE PRESSURE IMPORTANT AND WHEN SHOULD I HAVE MY TIRES ROTATED?
Correct tire pressure improves fuel consumption, vehicle safety, vehicle handling, & tire wear. Always set tire pressure according to manufacturers specifications which can be found on the vehicle sticker (usually located on drivers’ side door panel). Tires should be rotated twice a year or every 10,000 km’s.
4. WHAT IS AN ENGINE TUNE-UP AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD THIS BE DONE?
Vehicle technology has changed dramatically in the last 20 years and more so in this 21st century. Depending on the age of your vehicle an engine tune-up usually involves the replacement of spark plugs, ignition wire set, distributor cap & rotor, pcv valve, air filter & fuel filter. Make sure that your cabin air filter is also checked at this time as quite often it is over-looked. Your ignition system can also be checked with an analyzer. Follow manufacturers’ recommendations unless drivability problems occur.
5. WHY IS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT?
- Prolongs vehicle life
- Reduces major vehicle repairs
- Increases fuel economy
- Increase vehicle reliability as vehicle ages
- Increases re-sale or trade-in value
- Increases life of major components
- Increases cooling capabilities of major components.
